1. Check Review AND Complaint Sites.

Sure, that plumber has posted some positive reviews on the site, but are those reviews representative of the company's work? You'll only know if you also look for complaints.

2. Check to Make Sure Their Reviews are Real

Some companies post false reviews. Want to know how you can tell if a review is probably fake?

One of the most common "fake reviews" companies are doing is to create fake profiles on a site like Google+ and then posting positive reviews for their company through these fake profiles. You can identify these easily - they won't name specific employees from the company, they won't have a profile pic, and the review will sound canned. Look for evidence of personal service and a real experience. We ask our customers to please tell us how their experience was with the specific technician that worked on their home. They don't always do that, but you'll notice that most of our reviews mention real technicians - because they are real reviews.

 3. They Aren't Clear About Expertise or Size of Staff

When a plumbing company is small, new or inexperienced, they usually try to make themselves look bigger than they are. Working with a small company isn't bad; in fact, some of the huge national companies are notorious for not caring about customer satisfaction because they have no commitment to the local community and they are big enough to not care if you are happy with their work or not.

However, a small, new company may not have the staff, expertise, parts on hand, heavy duty equipment to handle your plumbing needs.

Look for information on their site for the following:

* How long have they been in business? (If you can't find it on the site, check the BBB again.) You can also check things like their blog - for example, we've been posting articles on our blog for over five years. Obviously, we've been in business for longer than that (much longer - we've been accredited with the BBB since 2001). Our owner, Dave Parker, has over 30 years of experience and hires only experienced technicians.

* Are they licensed and insured? You don't want them making a mistake or getting injured on your property and then making their mistakes your problem instead of theirs!

* Do they own their own heavy duty equipment? Do they arrive with fully stocked trucks or will they need to order parts and get back to you in a few days? We can't carry everything, but we usually have the parts with us and are able to get even big jobs done quickly because we own our own heavy duty equipment.

* How big or small is their staff? A good plumber will post reviews about each staff member so you know how the technicians perform with real customers. (Read our employee reviews here and our company reviews here.)

4. They Sound Too Good to be True

Like other plumbers, we have to charge for things like a dispatch fee (which sometimes people don't understand right away). However, we do our best to give quotes over the phone when possible, and we stick to set pricing system to avoid overcharging. We care very much about customer satisfaction; if you aren't satisfied, our owner (Dave Parker) will do his best to make things right.

However, some plumbers make it sound like they don't charge for dispatch fees, or they tell you it will only cost $69 to get any drain cleared (without mentioning that that coupon only applies if they clog is in the first few feet of the line - because no plumbing company can afford to clear a deep clog of tree roots several hundred feet down the line for only $69). If they sound too good to be true, they probably aren't on the up and up.
