Wondering What a Charlotte Water Heater Costs?

When you run out of hot water, you need a new water heater immediately. However, a water heater is a significant investment, so you won’t want to rush into a decision. Educate yourself about the cost of a 2016 water heater so you won’t make a hasty decision you’ll regret for the next decade (or two!).

The national average cost (with installation) of a typical electric tank hot water heater is between $900 and $1,300, depending on where you live. These prices are the national averages. Local prices will vary dependent on what part of the country you live in, what type and size of water heater you buy, and how much work needs to be done to prepare your home for the new water heater.

Choosing a Tank or Tankless Water Heater by Cost

People often wonder if they should just replace their old tank water heater with one of the same, or if an investment in a tankless water heater is worth the expense. Here’s what you need to know: 2016 tankless water heaters are significantly more expensive than tank water heaters, but they also:

  • Last twice as long
  • Save you approximately 40% in water heating costs
  • Do not require maintenance

To determine which type water heater (compare tank and tankless water heaters) will be most cost effective for your family, ask yourself the following questions:

1. How long do I plan on living in this home?

  • Under 10 years? You only need a tank water heater.
  • Over 10 years? You’ll save money if you get a tankless water heater.

2. How many people live in my home?

  • Three or fewer? You only need a tank water heater.
  • Over three? You’ll save money with a tankless water heater.

3. How often do we do laundry/dishes/shower?

  • Less than average? A tank water heater will do just fine.
  • More than average (i.e. everyone in the household works out so you have to do laundry more often, or you have kids, so you run a lot of baths and showers)? A tankless water heater will save you money.

4. Am I a home improvement project type of homeowner, or do I want hassle-free appliances?

  • If you have performed annual maintenance on your tank water heater thus far (drain and flush it each year, replace the anode rod every three years), you are the type of homeowner who will get 12-14 years out of your tank water heater instead of the average 10-12. Go for another tank water heater (and care for it well).
  • If you’ve never touched your water heater in the 10 years you’ve owned it, you may want to consider a tankless since it will keep going for 20+ years without you having to think about it.
