Charlotte Water Heaters: Tips for Troubleshooting Your Water Heater
Your water heater is the best appliance that you never see. From lovely, long hot showers to sparkling clean dishes, you’d miss it and notice if it was damaged or broken. So what do you do if you’re suspecting that your heater might be broken? Look for the symptoms and try to find the cause, of course. Before you attempt any work on your heater though, you should always make sure to cut the power so you don’t get injured in the process.
No hot water?
If you’re suddenly out of hot water, there’s likely a problem with the heating process. Either a fuse is broken or blown, or the heating element or thermostat isn’t working. To fix this problem, you’ll have to investigate those elements and replace any that are malfunctioning.
Is the hot water defective?
Defective water would be if water was just lukewarm when set to hot, or if the hot water runs out very quickly. This could suggest an undersized heater, a mistake during installation (crossed connection), or a broken heating element. Your best bet is to check the heating elements and capacity of the tank before calling in a professional to fix any crossed connections or other issues.
Is the water too hot?
This is a simple fix and just means that the thermostat is too high – all you need to do is turn it down!
